Bathroom Towels
Bath towels are an essential item in any bathroom, yet they can also play a large part in the overall look of the bathroom. Many people chose functionality over beauty, but it is possible to have soft, absorbent towels that also look beautiful in the bathroom.
When choosing bath towels, you want to look at the texture to make sure they will be absorbent enough. You should always look at the fiber content of any towels you purchase. Towels are made of cotton or a cotton blend. You can tell the quality of the cotton by the length of its staple (fiber). Towels made of cotton with longer staples will be more absorbent and last longer.
Bath Towel Materials
Among the different types of cotton used for towels are Egyptian (highly absorbent and strong), organic (made without pesticides), pima (high quality cotton grown in the southwest U.S.), supima (superior pima), Turkish (long staple cotton known for its natural sheen and durability), Brazillian (which has a standard staple length), and bamboo (ultra absorbent with a natural sheen).
Bath Towel Sizes
Towel size is another thing to consider when making a purchase. A bath towel is what is usually used after bathing or showering to dry off your body. However, a bath sheet is larger and easier to wrap around your entire body. For drying your hands, you will need a hand towel. A washcloth is used to clean faces, hands, and bodies either inside or outside the bathtub. Fingertip towels are the smallest and often used in guest bathrooms for decoration more than anything else. A tub mat towel is one that is extra absorbent and used like a rub to step on after getting out of the bathtub or shower. Chances are you will need more than one size of towel and probably more than one of each. The exact amount may depend on the number of bathrooms you have in your home or just personal preference.
Many people have a set of decorative bath towels to make their bathroom look nice. The bath towels should be color coordinated with the rest of the bathroom and may or may not be actually used for bathing purposes. Jacquard bath towels have a pattern woven directly into the towel fabric. This can be anything from flowers to stripes to an abstract pattern. Some decorative towels simply have a design printed on the fabric. Decorative towels that are embellished, that is they have decorative trim or are embroidered often aren’t used when bathing. Some people simply consider these types of towels too fancy for everyday use.
If you want your bath towels to add something to the look of your bathroom, take some time to research the different types and look around rather than just purchasing the first towels you see. Also remember that towels made of cotton with longer staples will absorb more water when drying off.
