Bathroom Towel Sizes
A bath towel is what most people use when getting out of the bathtub or shower. It usually measures 27” by 52” although a smaller bath towel may measure 20” x 40”. Some larger bath towels may measure up to 30” x 58”. Women and men with longer hair may use a bath towel to dry their hair as well.
Some people prefer a larger bath towel when drying off, one that they can easily wrap around themselves. This type of towel is usually referred to as a bath sheet. A bath sheet normally measures 35” x 60”. Beach towels may also be used when drying off after a shower or bath. They typically measure 30” x 60”, being just slightly smaller than the bath sheets. However, beach towels may not be as absorbent as traditional bath towels because one of its primary functions is to provide a surface on which to lie while at the beach.
A hand towel is traditionally used to dry your hands after washing. The normal dimensions for a hand towel are 16” x 30”.
A washcloth is used when washing your face, although some people may use it when freshening up body parts either in or out of the shower or bathtub. Washcloths are great for scrubbing and exfoliating. A washcloth is perfectly square, usually measuring 13” x 13”.
A fingertip towel is usually placed in the bathroom just for decoration. These fingertip towels are often more decorative than the other towels and may have trim, lace, or some pattern or initials embroidered on it. A fingertip towel measures 11” x 18”.
A tub mat (sometimes referred to as a foot towel) is a towel that may be more tightly woven, making them more absorbent than other towels because it is placed on the floor to absorb water when leaving the bathtub or shower. When in a hotel, these tub mats are usually found draped over the bathtub wall. Tub mats usually measure 27” x 52”.
The number of towels you need may depend on how many bathrooms you have or how many people are in your family. When in a hotel, you are usually provided with a change of towels (a bath towel, a hand towel, and a washcloth).
