Decorating with Bathroom Towels

Bath towels are necessary items in the bathroom, but they can also be very useful when decorating. Some people even have “fancy” towels that are always on display in their bathroom to help the overall look, while using day-to-day bath towels for bathing.

Most people have an overall color theme to their bathrooms and your towels should complete those colors. If you have a smaller bathroom, painting earth-hued stripes on the walls can make the bathroom appear taller and thus larger.

If you have bathroom wallpaper with images on it, such as seashells or starfish, you may want to look for bath towels with something beachy embroidered on them to bring out the overall theme. If you don’t want to use wallpaper – some people don’t like it because it can be difficult to put up and remove – consider painting then using rubber stamps to make your own design. Again, you can match your rubber stamp to your towel design. However, you may want complimenting images rather than exact – you don’t want to overdo it. To prevent the imaged or embroidered bath towels being too much, you may want to mix and match them with solid colored bath towels.

If you cannot find towels with embroidered images to match your theme, you can decorate them yourself. You can cut strips of ribbon or lace then use a hot glue gun to attach the strips to the ends of the bath towels. Only do this to bath towels you don’t plan to actually use. Adding things such as ribbon should only be done to towels that are serving as decoration and not for everyday use.

If you are going to a solid wall color, pick one that matches your countertops. Many bathrooms have solid white or off white countertops, but some have colored marble. It will be much easier to match your paint and bath towel colors to the countertop than vice versa. Also, be sure the bath towels match or compliment the shower curtain if you have one.

The way you display your towels can also add to the overall look of your bathroom. You can hang two bath sized towels on the towel rack, then place two hand towels on top and in the middle of those. Finally, hang washcloths on top of the hand towels, but hang them with a corner pointing down. You can also roll your smaller towels and put them in a wicker basket. Mixing and matching colors when doing this can really add some pizzazz to your bathroom decoration.
