Gifting Bath Towels

There are many occasions when bath towels make excellent gifts. Some good examples might be if you know someone going away to college, a newlywed couple just starting out, a expectant or new mom, or a friend starting over after divorce.

If you plan on attending a bridal shower, chances are that bath towels are on the bride’s registry. The invitation to the bridal shower should list the places where the bride is registered, but if it doesn’t, you can ask the person who sent the invitation or the bride herself. While white is functional in any bathroom, it will be better to check the registry to see what colors and types of towels the bride needs. Also, the registry keeps the bride from getting too many towels because when someone purchases some, they are taken off the list when you purchase them.

Some places suggest that brides ask for a certain number of bath towels on their registry. For the master bathroom, a bride might want to register for six bath sheets, six bath towels, six hand towels, and six washcloths as well as two bath rugs. This gives you three complete sets of towels per person. For the guest bathroom, it is suggested that the bride register for two bath sheets, four bath towels, two hand towels, and two washcloths as well as one bath rug.

You can usually look up a bride’s registry one of two ways – go to the store or visit the store’s online web site. You will need to know the bride’s name and perhaps the groom’s name as well as the wedding date to find the exact registry you are looking for.

Someone who is going away to college or someone who has recently divorced won’t need as many towels as a gift. They probably won’t be registered anywhere, so in order to know what they need and what colors, you will need to ask. Or, you can just buy a complete set of one bath towel, one hand towel, and one washcloth of a color like white or beige that will go with most anything.

Expectant or new moms will need baby towels. New moms may need more baby towels than you would expect because the towels may get dirtier than normal bath towels. Also, washcloths will be used a lot to clean the baby, so the new mother will need plenty of those. Baby bath towels usually have a hooded section for the baby’s head. Some places may sell the towels in a set. For example, you may be able to purchase a set of a hooded towel, washcloth and burp towels of a similar pattern or color. Or, you can just purchase a set of washcloths, ensuring that the new mom has plenty of those.

While bath towels may not seem like an “exciting” gift to give someone, it is something practical that is almost always appreciated and used.
