There are several things to consider when purchasing bath towels. After you decide what types of towels you need for the bathroom, you will need to think about how many of each type of towel you need.
Some people say bath towels are the one linen item of which you can never have too many, but that just isn’t true. The best things to consider when looking at how many towels you should purchase is the number of people in the household, the number of bathrooms, how many guests you normally have, the convenience of a washer and dryer, and the size of storage space you have for towels.
If it is just you and you have convenient access to a washer and dryer, you may want to just have a couple of sets of towels. If you are single, have guest rooms, and entertain quite a bit, you will want at least one or two additional sets. But, you also have to consider how much storage room you have for the towels. There is a delicate balance between having enough towels and having too many.
If you have a significant other, but no children, you will need more towels than a single person. You will want at least one set for each person, although two sets would probably be more practical. If you live near a lake or beach, you will need beach towels. If you have guests come, be sure you have at least two or three extra beach towels for them.
If you have children, you will obviously need more towels, especially hand towels to help clean up spills and accidents. You may also need additional washcloths in case you need to wash little faces during the day. And don’t forget about towels for the baby. Babies often require smaller, softer towels so you will need at least one set per baby, although it will probably be easier on laundry if you have at least two sets. You may also want more towels if you have pets such as cats or dogs, to help clean up any accidents they might have.
You will want enough towels to make sure you have whatever you need, but you also need to watch the number you have because it is easy to over-buy towels then not have anywhere to store them. Remember that you will probably have one set on display in each bathroom at all times.
